Masterclass Photographic Chemistry
NETHERLANDS
ICN Masterclass Photographic Chemistry
The chemistry of imaging processes from the earliest
19th century photographs to present day digital imaging will be offered
in a 5-day lecture and demonstration based course. A special
consideration will be directed toward the conservation implications of
chemical processing, treatment and storage.
Topics will be: general chemistry principles used in
photography (chemistry of silver - emulsion-making; film and paper
manufacturing; development processes: physical and chemical
development; general archival and permanence considerations); silver
and non-silver photographic processes of the 19th century; silver and
non-silver photographic processes of the 20th century; color
photography - chromogenic and transfer processes; digital photography -
ink jet and electrophotographic imaging: inks and media.
This program will provide the information using a
combination of lecture, demonstration and classroom participation
exercises. Each participant will be asked to bring at least one 8x10
black and white photographic print that can be transformed into a color
image.
