The Anasazi Heritage Center (AHC) offers student internships in Collections Management SUPERVISOR: Susan Thomas, Museum Curator LOCATION: Bureau of Land Management, Anasazi Heritage Center, Dolores, Colorado. DATES: 8-12 consecutive weeks. Specific reporting and departure dates are negotiable. The Anasazi Heritage Center includes a main archaeology gallery with artifact exhibits, a replica pit house, touchable and hands-on exhibits, computer-based explorations, a gallery for temporary exhibitions, a movie theater, a room for special educational programs, and a 100 seat theater. On the museum grounds are two 12th century archaeological sites (the Dominguez and Escalante Pueblos) and nature walk through pinon-juniper woodland to a 360° view of the surrounding region (Mesa Verde, La Plata Mountains, Dolores River Valley, and Sleeping Ute Mountain). The AHC staff also manages a library, a conservation laboratory, and over 3 million artifacts, samples, and original documents. INTERNSHIP IN COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT REIMBURSEMENT: $100 per week stipend. Housing at a communal, 3 bedroom house located on 6 acres adjacent to the Anasazi Heritage Center. No travel reimbursement is available. QUALIFICATIONS: Open to individuals with an interest in museum collections management or curatorial activities. Applicants with prior background in archaeology, anthropology and collections management will be given preference. UNIVERSITY CREDIT: College or university credit may be arranged depending upon policy of university involved. AHC professional staff will supervise credit procedures established by the intern and school. JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is that of a general curatorial assistant and will, therefore, involve a variety of curatorial tasks. The intern will be entering a considerable amount of data in the museum's ARGUS cataloging system. In addition, the intern will assist with various repackaging, reorganizing, and inventory projects of existing collections at the AHC. This position offers a broad exposure to the curatorial operations of a federal repository. TO APPLY: Submit vita and a letter of interest explaining your personal goals.
