The Boston Museum of Fine
Arts (MFA) has discovered a hidden painting, called “Wild Vegetation”,
under the work known as "Ravine". The discovery was made by MFA’s
Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in Paintings Conservation Meta Chavannes when
asked to study the painting. Chavannes proceeded to x-ray the painting
and found out an image that did not match the painting.
Later,
Chavannes contacted Louis van Tilborgh, a research curator at the Van
Gogh Museum, which identified the image as being made according to a
drawing from the Museum's collection.

It has been found that
Van Gogh decided to re-use this painting because his brother was
delaying to send new painting materials.
