The Portuguese Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation has recently announced that a systematic inventory of Portuguese Historical Heritage around the world, specifically in the American, African and Asian continents, is going to start in September. On the next two years the team, lead by the historian José Mattoso, is going to identify and register the Portuguese Heritage in the referred continents. The work will be later published, a year after the conclusion of the project, in 3 volumes - 1 to each continent. Beside the obvious importance for the study of the History of Art and the History of the Architecture, the project is going to be "an important document to define historical and strategic criteria for a future intervention of the Foundation on this domain". Since 1958 the Gulbenkian Foundation has been committed to the preservation of Portuguese Heritage around the world, with a first intervention for a fortress in Mombasa (Kenya). In the last years, the Foundation has also promoted several interventions in India. |
