This is a very good initiative! I did notice since long time ago that conservation was not very well represented in Wikipedia and I'm glad to know that that has been changing. I hope many people will start participating and that this will increase awareness of our field among the general public.

 

Hello everyone... Just wanted to introduce a project that I and several other conservators have been working on, that is the improvement of the English language wikipedia sites relating to conservation.

The main page is:

and there are now many pages about related topics, and biographies of conservators that have been started.

Anyone is welcome to get involved and help shape this page into what could potentially be a very useful resource for professionals and public alike. We would like to see it become a globally useful tool, however, predominantly the information must be english language based as there are other wikipedias for other languages. 

If you want to get involved please check out the rules of wikipedia, if you are new to it, a lot of background info can be found http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia

And in regards to working on the page, we are trying to discuss edits prior to making them using the talk pages (with some success -although not all who edit use the talk pages). I would encourage everyone to use the talk pages either before editing, or simply to make suggestions if you do not want to edit.

Posting this in behalf of Melissa McCoy, law student at Northern Kentucky University, currently looking into topics for a research paper:

I was wondering if you could direct me to any information about "citizen archeology" (it is a controversial practice that has been suggested in order to protect cultural property from looting as there are more sites to preserve than professional archeologists have time to uncover).  If you are familiar with anything about this practice I would greatly appreciate any information I can get.

Lately I have been quite thoughfull about where is the line between the responsibilities of an Architect and the Conservator concerning the design of a museum storage. I would be delighted to hear your comments based on your experience.
